In the beginning there were only crackles... the story of your first vinyl record.
Anyone who first encountered a vinyl record remembers that moment perfectly – the turntable needle gently descends onto the record's surface, and instead of music, a distinctive crackling sound emerges from the speakers. These sounds may initially seem unsettling or even unwanted. However, for many vinyl lovers, these subtle distortions have become symbols of something special – a return to the past, authenticity, and true analog sound.
Everyone starts somewhere...
My adventure with vinyl began in a rather unusual way. After the death of my uncle, whose passions and interests I had never fully understood, I helped organize his old belongings. In one of the abandoned sheds, beneath a layer of dust and cobwebs, I stumbled upon something unexpected – a large, carefully arranged collection of vinyl records. There were albums from years past, both classic releases and gems I hadn't even known existed. This discovery was like discovering a fragment of my uncle's life I'd never known before. With each new disc, I felt myself getting closer to his story, and the sounds of these records opened up a whole new world for me.

What was there before vinyl?
Before I discovered vinyl, my first musical passion was collecting CDs. Music accompanied me in every free moment – first in my younger years on cassettes, which I listened to on my Walkman, later on my MP4 player, and over time, I became increasingly drawn to building a collection of albums on CD. However, the moment that changed my approach to music was buying my first guitar at the age of 18. From that moment on, music connected me to more than just listening – it began to be a way of expressing myself. It was then that my connection with sound deepened. Over time, I discovered vinyl records, which proved to be the next step in my musical journey.

Equipment is important too!
Now it's time to talk about the turntable on which I first heard the sound of vinyl. It wasn't high-end equipment, but a budget Camry model. I bought it with points I received from work once a year, which I could use to spend on purchases at various stores, such as Empik. Although it wasn't top-of-the-line, it had something special about it – it allowed me to experience for the first time that magical moment when the stylus touches the record and those unmistakable crackles occur. It was on this simple Camry that I began my vinyl adventure.

First steps...
My first vinyl purchase? O.S.T.R. – Jazz w Spare Moments. It was a conscious choice, stemming from my love of Polish hip-hop and the fondness I had for this album. When I held the record in my hands, I felt it was more than just a musical medium – it was part of my musical world. The first listen on the turntable was exceptional – familiar sounds gained a new depth, and the listening process itself became more ritualistic. Jazz w Spare Moments is an album that had been with me before, but on vinyl it revealed its true magic.

The collection is growing!
And so we come to the point where my vinyl collection has grown quite substantial. I now have a lot of records, both 12-inch albums and 10-inch gems, which bring diversity to my collection. Each record has its own story, its own sound, and collecting and discovering new records has become a passion for me. Sometimes I return to those first records, which remind me of how it all began – from discovering old vinyl in a shed, through my first listens on a cheap record player, to the conscious choices that now shape my collection.

It's more than just a hobby.
And that's the entire story of how I first started listening to vinyl. From the unexpected discovery of my record collection in my uncle's old shed, through my first turntable bought with work points, to my first conscious vinyl purchases, each step of this journey brought me closer to music on a new, deeper level. Today, vinyl is more than a hobby—it's a way to celebrate and enjoy music in its most authentic form. Every record, every crackle, and every album has its place in this story, which I'm still writing, adding to it as I add new musical discoveries.

And that's all for today. How did your vinyl adventure begin? Were there any surprises like mine? I look forward to hearing your stories! :)
